Chastity releases new album self-titled
Post-rocker Chastity has released his latest album, its self-titled, and while mining familiar territory for the Whitby raised artist, it does feel more like a beginning, a post-resolution rendering. Chastity (the project of Brandon Williams) blurs the borders of modern rock; emo, hardcore, shoegaze, punk, across the 13 tracks but most intriguingly for us here in Shwarock City he has one track which plunges right into the Black Grass. Titled ‘Offing’ its a jangly strum-a-long campfirey jaunt with some Blue Rodeo or Cuff The Duke vibes, so I’m saying you can take the lad out of the land but not the land out of the lad. Also there is the track, ‘Lake Ontario’ which obviously is obvious. Overall the album continues Williams personal intimate confessionals while still getting a broader base of musical ideas to house them in. And if we can get even more Black Grass-y in this, its an album for those who enjoy following an artist’s exploration of self and craft, think Neil Young. Big boots but the young Young would have been as familiar with the land and the Lake as the Chastity so maybe not so far reaching.
