The Surfrajettes release ‘Easy As Pie’
The Surfrajettes maybe from the caved in waves on shores of Lake Scugog bringing their bright jangle side of the Black Grass; the Sadies Precious Moments side, the Neil Young Squires side (‘The Sultan’ anyone?), the north side of the Moraine side to their latest on wax ‘Easy As Pie’. Four known legends; working in a finer diner, with B52 beehives, swinging guitarists Shermy Freeman and Nicole Damoff, bassist Sarah Butler, drummer Anna Liebel, all Girl Power - Diner fare such as maybe the Jokers ‘Instant Coffee’, maybe the Astronauts Hot Doggin’, there’s a ’Spice Up Your Life’ cover, and then there’s the home made - ‘Easy As Pie’, ‘Lickety Spilt’, ‘Priss and Vinegar’, ‘Word Salad’, ‘Clam Chowder’ and whats a diner without ‘Toasted Western’. Its difficult to bring something new to the tune table, in particular when its such a narrow defined thing as Surf but the Surfrajettes certainly put a disarmingly charming retro twist on the Link Wray and Hank Marvin slinky guitar riffs roots of rolling with the Rock.
